The Mining Legacy :

Over 25 years of research on and under the battlefields of the Great War, combined with the access to military records and engineers worldwide, has produced a vast and unrivalled archive of Australia's role in this underground war.

The FILM and DVD will complement AN EXISTING CAMPAIGN to finally establish a memorial and interpretive centre to long-forgotten Australian Tunnellers of the Great War, lead by Queenslander Ross Thomas with the support and cooperation of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. The contribution of the Australian Tunnellers was integral to the Allied success in decisively winning the war underground and represents the finest moment in the mining industry's involvement in any Australian conflict. The tale of their extraordinary, indeed almost unbelievable, endeavors will complement Australia's Gallipoli story and add a new piece of the jigsaw of Australian national heritage.
